An approximately 4.5-foot shark got a helping hand from Los Angeles beachgoers after it became stranded on the shore near a Venice Beach fishing pier in California this week.
Although it can’t be identified for certain, the shark appears to be either a juvenile great white or a salmon shark, a close –yet smaller –relative of great whites.
Based on its size, the shark is less than one year old. It is not clear from the video how the baby shark ended up on the shore.
The video, which was shot and posted by YouTube user, Kevin Feig, show a group of men attach a rope around the shark’s tail fin and drag it safely back to the water where it reportedly swam away under its own power.
“Saw some quick thinking (and brave) good samaritans save a beached baby Great White,” Feig wrote on his YouTube posting.
