Much to the chagrin of parents everywhere, the “Baby Shark”song hasn’t gotten old yet. The kid-friendly viral sensation bit into the Billboard Top 100 this week, swimming in at No. 32.
According to Nielsen Music, the song had 20.8 million streams last week. “Baby Shark” also moved 3,000 digital downloads in the tracking week ending on Jan 3. It also ranked No. 2 in the Kid Digital Song Sales, where has been the top entry for the past 11 weeks.
The two-decade old song has enjoyed a major resurgence thanks to the Pinkfong version, which was re-released in 2016. Since then the accompanying video has over 2 billion YouTube views.
The song gained widespread notoriety after it inspired a viral video trend, the Baby Shark Dance Challenge. This Christmas, the Baby Shark Singing Plush Doll from WowWee, which was only available during an Amazon presale, sold out in less than 72 hours and was quickly selling online for $200 or more on the resale market.
