A juvenile bull shark that was brought in to the Tarpon Springs Aquarium in Florida is making a slow but steady recovery after it was found suffering from extreme cold shock on a Florida beach.
The shark was brought to the aquarium last week by a local charter captain after it was found alive but unresponsive after a cold front swept through the Tampa Bay area that brought temperatures in the mid-30s.
“It was rigid, its mouth was clamped shut, and really no sign of life whatsoever,” aquarium owner Scott Konger said.
Aquarium workers were able to revive the 2-year-old female shark by running warm water over its gills and loosening its fins so that it could swim on its own. The shark was then transferred to a larger tank at aquarium facility where it will likely remain for the near future. The staff named their new addition Elsa in honer of the Disney Princess from Frozen.
