A man fishing on a charter boat in Boca Grande Pass in Florida fell overboard and was bitten by an approximately eight-foot bull shark.
The angler, Paul Kelly, was battling an estimated 150-pound tarpon in the Pass when the fish pulled him over board. As he tried to swim back to the boat, the bull shark, which tend to be very aggressive in that area this time of year came up and bit down on Kelly’s leg.
“I reeled him all the way down and one foot slipped, and 150-pound tarpon just threw me into the water,” Kelly told NBC-2. “Next thing I know, something hits me and it’s the tarpon. But it’s not, it’s the bull shark.”
Kelly was quickly transported to a local hospital where he received several stitches and staples to close the wounds on his upper leg. It was the first recorded attack in Charlotte County, Florida in 10 years.
“He didn’t like me, so he spit me back out,” Kelly
