In the spirit of shark week, the horror movie community commemorates a classic shark horror, Deep Blue Sea. The 1999 classic, directed by Renny Harlin, stars Saffron Burrows, Thomas Jane, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Rapaport, and rapper LL Cool J. A new podcast covers behind-the-scenes content and interesting facts about the movie.
If you haven’t yet seen this movie, you should give it a watch while you wait for new shark week content. I understand horror movies about sharks can be wildly inaccurate when it comes to shark behavior. With this movie, however, you don’t have to worry about logic, just enjoy the ride. Without getting too far into the plot, the film details a lab battling Alzheimer’s disease by genetically engineering mako sharks, until something goes wrong. Deep Blue Sea grossed over $165 million (US) internationally. The film also features LL Cool J remixing Method Man’s classic “You’re All I Need.”
