For its 37th Expedition, OCEARCH is headed back to the Northwest Atlantic Shared Foraging Area.
Based on data from the OCEARCH Tracker, there is currently a large concentration of white sharks gathered in the NASFA. OCEARCH’s team of collaborating scientists and master fishermen will join forces to advance our understanding of health, reproduction and migratory patterns for Northwest Atlantic white sharks.
This expedition, which sets off on January 24, will feature 22 crew members performing 18 different scientific studies over 19 days at sea. The primary objective of this mission is to the “North Atlantic White Shark Study”. The purpose of this project is to solve the life history puzzle of the North Atlantic white shark by gathering the appropriate data that would tell where this population breeds, feeds and gives birth. The way to do this is by tagging at least 10 sharks of each sex in three categories: juvenile, immature, and mature.
