The Discovery Channel is set to reel viewers in once again with their much-anticipated Shark Week 2023.
Shark Week 2023 begins on Sunday, July 23th, and runs an entire week. As the world’s leading annual event dedicated to shark-themed programming, Shark Week continues to blend the allure of entertainment with a deep dive into science and conservation efforts surrounding these magnificent and often misunderstood creatures. This year, the exciting lineup will feature new shows, exclusive footage, and captivating narratives delivered by renowned scientists and celebrity guests.
Jason Momoa, who is used to being the master of all saline as his role as Aquaman in the DC Universe, will be the host for the 35th installment of the summer mainstay. Momoa, who is dedicated to protecting and preserving our oceans, will guide fans through the biggest annual celebration of sharks.
“As the host of Shark Week, I am beyond excited to take you along on this journey,” said Momoa. “This project means more to me than a week of talking about sharks. It’s a chance for me to learn and share my connection to these amazing creatures. My love of sharks came long before my time as Aquaman – it began several generations before me.”
This year’s lineup will have 20 new hours of television featuring the apex predators, including “Belly of the Beast: Feeding Frenzy” that will provide a first time, close-up look at a great white shark feast — captured by researchers with cameras inside a whale carcass decoy — or “Cocaine Sharks” that reveals what happens to sharks that possibly feed on cocaine and other illegal drugs dumped in South Florida waters.
