Spearfisherman Wil Krause only remembers the crunching sounds after a shark bit down on his skull.
The 29-year-old from South Carolina was on a spearfishing dive in the Bahamas this summer when an approximately 6-foot reef shark bit down on the back of his head. Video of the incident, shot by another diver, Zachary Shipps, went viral this week after it was posted online.
“I don’t remember really feeling a lot of pain in the moment,” Krause told Global News. “Of course, the adrenaline kicks and it felt like a life-or-death moment right away.”
Fellow divers were able to get Krause back aboard the boat where they were able to slow the bleeding until they were able to reach a small clinic on land. Krause suffered significant blood loss from severe lacerations to head and neck that required nine stitches, as well as a mild concussion. Krause was able to leave the clinic on his own power and is expected to make a full recovery.
