A video of an Australian fisherman using a dead shark as a bong has gone viral, drawing the ire of many online.
The video which was posted to the Facebook group Fried Fishing Australia, which featured a marine-themed stunts, showed a young man smoking marijuana to the tune of the children’s song, Baby Shark. The video garnered over a million views before it was removed.
After the backlash, the young man in the video, identified as Billy Brislane, unapologetically took to social media to defend his actions.
“All of us have spent our whole day filtering removing and coping abusive messages as far as to death threats,” the young man said. “I started friedfishing sitting around a fire drinking beers doing dumb stuff and we thought we would start filming it and it grew into a place where like minded people had a laugh and enjoyed it.”
The attention even caught the eye of local law enforcement, Brislane, who insists that he was only smoking tobacco, noted in a subsequent post.
“I just want to say thanks to the bunch of sooks who have complained to the point of the police visiting,” he wrote. “Honestly I quit.”
Brislane had previously made shark-related headlines across the globe after catching and killing five bull sharks near a tourist beach on the Macleay River in North Australia last year.
