Primary filming for the docuseries “Apex Survival | The Expedition” wrapped up this week in Cape Town South Africa.
The series, which focuses on great white sharks and is being produced by Arniston Media, “will provide viewers with unexpected action and adventure, emotional drama, history, local culture and marine science — all set against a backdrop of stunning oceanic and terrestrial cinematography,” according to the official press release.
“The Apex Survival series not only explores the mysteries of the vanishing Great White shark in South African waters,” executive producer Jakes Jordaan said. “but also the growing relationships among three strong, independent women forming special bonds, while overcoming doubts and fears as they prepare to free-dive (no cage/no scuba) with a Great White shark.”
The Apex Survival series features Ocean Ramsey — world leading shark behavior expert, Juan Oliphant – early Sea Sheppard member turned shark photographer, Julia Wheeler — Australian champion free-diver and investigative photo journalist, and Tanya van Graan — South African conservationist, actress and free-diver.
“Every year humans kill over 70 million sharks – about two to three sharks every second,” Ramsey said. “They are being wiped out to the brink of extinction. The primary objective of the Apex Survival series is to assess the plight of Great White Shark in South Africa waters, raise awareness of just how incredible the Great Whites are through stunning visual imagery and inspire people to get involved and make a difference. It is now or never.”
